Chief Executive of Westcoast Renewable Energy (WRE)
Alan is the Chief Executive of Westcoast Renewable Energy (WRE), a Tasmanian developer of onshore wind projects. The WRE team were the original developers of the first Independent Power Producer in Tasmania, the Granville Harbour Wind Farm. They are now developing the Whaleback Ridge Energy Project, a large-scale 3GW project on the west coast. WRE has undertaken a range of feasibility studies and related activities that has confirmed the high potential of this transformative project. Alan will detail recent developments that sees the project entering the next phase.
Alan began his career in oil and gas in Australia, the North Sea and Middle East. He transitioned into Qantas then into government where, as a Trade Diplomat, he had assignments in China, the Philippines and Pakistan, this included 6 years heading the Austrade office at the Australian Embassy in Beijing. After more than two decades overseas he returned to Australia with a strong focus on renewables. He has been involved in the renewables sector in Tasmania for more than 8 years. Alan has worked with several ASX200 companies in Asia, effectively managed for results in challenging business environments, and is a Mandarin speaker.
